Presentation Abstract: Laszlo as a photographic artist, always dreamed about seeing, feeling, touching, hearing, and photographing the untouched remote areas of the far North. His dream came to reality when he and his wife retired end of June 2019, and they made their own 3 months expedition through the Rockies to the Northern Rockies and through the Yukon Territories to Alaska.  During their epic journey, they photographed along the Yukon’s Dempster Highway, went through the Top of the World Highway to Alaska, and from Fairbanks up far North to the  Arctic Wildlife Refuge at the Brooks Range. They camped at the Arctic Circle visited many beautiful regions in Alaska and came back through British Columbia to North Cascade and the Oregon Coast. Laszlo will present the highlights of their 15 thousand-mile trip and will illustrate it with his outstanding nature photography.

Presenter Bio: Dr. Laszlo Perlaky is a Hungarian-born photographic artist, educator, and owner of  Naturalperl Fine Art Photography. After 30 years of service to Baylor College of Medicine and Texas Children’s Cancer and Hematology Centers he retired, and now he dedicates his time to nature photography and teaching. After 20+ years of black and white bird and wildlife photography, he has transitioned to the chrome medium, made his multi-projector slide shows, and then the new technology helped him to rediscover the monochrome, combining large format film photography with fine art photographic printing. He has won several prestigious awards, and published and exhibited his work at art festivals, and group and solo exhibitions. He is a member of several national and international photographic organizations, a photography instructor at Houston Center for Photography and Houston Photography Study Group, and leads his Naturalperl workshops.

2018

January 10, 2018: Learning from the Masters of Bird Photography: Making Great Images Before Digital with Dr. Laszlo Perlaky

Laszlo as a photographic artist, was deeply influenced by European and American pre-digital master nature photographers, like Karoly Koffan, Zoltan Tildy, Fritz Polking, Eric Hosking, Eliot Porter, Ansel Adams, Thomas Mangelsen, John Shaw, Jack Dykinga, Frans Lanting, just name a few. Their publications, seminars, workshops, and exhibitions helped Laszlo to develop his own style and deepened his understanding and connection to nature. Laszlo will review these influential historical masters’ works and he will share his own memories and a number of key elements which helped him to grow as a nature photographer. He will translate the old but unique technical innovations and ideas developed in the film area to the nowadays digital photographers to rejuvenate their vision and control their cameras again.
