Laszlo’s new, in-progress Portfolio, “Combed”, exploring Nature’s abstractions, was presented to the Pixel+Silver photographic art critique group, at Lou West’s Studio, on February 11, 2019. Laszlo’s stunning, communication-based images, photographed with his large-format film camera in fine details using black and white negative film, represent nature’s touches by wind, water, or animal movements on surface vegetations. I led my “Through the Lens” photo hike for birds at Brazos Bend State Park, TX on January 2, 2019. Five of us walked slowly at the West side of Elm Lake then on the Spillway Trail to the bridge, then to the 40-Acre Lake. The sky was overcast during the first part of the hike, but we walked back to the parking in rain. Luckily we were prepared, and our cameras and lenses were well protected. We photographed few birds, some abstractions, and we made several behavioral observations. We chat a lot, talked about the images on location, and had a good time together. The rain just stopped when we arrived back at the parking area, almost in dark. We were tired a little bit but enjoyed the photo hike.  I attached a few of my images taken on this photo hike.

The Houston Photographic Society’s Year-end Competition award ceremony was held at the Tracy Gee Community Center in Houston TX on January 8, 2019. The Year-end competition, juried by three distinguished professional photographers: Kathy Adams Clark, Bob Warren, and Michael Heart. The winning images were announced, discussed by the jurors, and awards were given to the photographers. All the winners had a chance to talk about their images. Laszlo received 3rd Place in the Black and White category for his “Gull Point Graas” image, photographed with his Linhof Master Technika 4×5 large format camera on black and white negative film at Yellowstone National Park, WY.

The Houston Photographic Society monthly print competition for January 2019, was held at the Tracy Gee Community Center, Houston TX, on January 22, 2019. Invited reviewer, professional photographer Bob Warren critiqued the images in Color and Black and White categories at Bronze, Silver, Gold, and Platinum levels. His suggestions and advice helped the members to understand how they improve their images. One of Laszlo’s black and white images, “Combed Reeds” received 3rd Place at the Platinum level, and one of his color images “Store Safety Shutter” received 1st Place at the Platinum level.

Looking for graphic-like images in the natural environment for my new “Combed” portfolio, I found this wind and water combed reeds laying to the shallow muddy water. I photographed this River delta-like structure of reeds on large format b&w negative film.

Looking for something simple and quiet on the lively, hectic, busy people-filled streets of New York City, I found interesting this yellow gold-like black color painted closed store safety shutter. I just relaxed when I clicked the shutter and made my carefully composed photograph.
